A Museum in Jenjarom, Simplicity or Complexity??

In my recent past semester project, I with my group members were assigned to design a museum where place in new village called as Jenjarom, located in South West of Selangor state.

Jenjarom has a significant Chinese population, and the village is the site of the Dong Zen Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple and Institute in Sungai Jenjarom. This predominantly for the Chinese Buddhist population, the non-Chinese community benefits from the tourism attractions. This has led to significant improvement of the new village. Furthermore, the village developed and expanded, the infrastructures, utilities and facilities of the village provided in Jenjarom are such as water and electricity supplies, sewerage plant and disposal, police station, clinic, community hall, food stalls, morning market, public transport, recreation Park and posting service.

At the beginning, my entire group members were separated in different part in doing the site analysis, each person has their job to be done. Although this can be call as complexity situations in architectural, in terms of scale from structures and buildings to site contexts. However my design approaches was to create an ideal of simplicity to compromise the origin culture and site context which exists for long time.

Simplicity in design might calm us and inspires us, not only in architecture but also in other forms of design. The simplicity of a building also represents an aspiration to find one place near the origin of architecture itself, to look as if one had always been there, in an open thinking with the surroundings that starts with the recognition in the identity and distances of each.

In my opinion Simplicity is not to be confused with simpleness, it might also include some complexity, it just depend on how the user or occupants perceptions. In the museum design, I choose to apply with different types of material to express the structural elements rather than hide them within the walls and ceilings. Repetition with simple expression of materials creates the architecture simplicity.

A wooden interior space creates a stage for thought and imagination. Here can hanging wall art, as in the window overlooking a wonderful village house another thing that could almost overlook the beautiful wood floor. All of these separate elements are woven into a simple composition.Beautiful architecture is not confined to the indoors, but should extend to outdoor living spaces, too, completing the idea and creating an urban friendly design. The beauty of outdoor space must also create its simplicity as simple, clean edge and geometry along with a rhythm of the building itself.

Conclusion, simplicity should never be confused with simpleness. Although people would often think that is a process of doing thing in easiest way. But it actually requires a lot of considerable thought and effort. It is not easy to make something look effortless, orderly and lyrical. The composition must be just right, just the right amount of elements, just the right amount of material and just enough of the elements to enclose the space in a beautiful way.
