Local Museum Design- simplicity

This is my degree year 2 semester 3 project. This project that I have done, the site is located at seri kembangan that we must understand the local environment and study their new village’s house as a case study. We are to design a local museum at the Seri Kembangan site, in our museum we must have few space which there are café, library, washroom, exhibition area, office and convenient shop.

This local museum is design to suit back the new village style ,which we must follow how the new village house looks like and the space in the house and so on. From there , we start designing by studying the local new village house and find out the elements that they have so we can apply it into our design. The 5 elements that I apply into my museum design are the timber wall, pitch roof, the timber ventilation opening and the contour of the whole Seri Kembangan area. “ Simplicity in architecture is not something natural “ as we need to design the museum by our thinking and studies so to apply the idea on it. Further more, the museum that I design is fully follow the elements that I found in the new village as “ Architecture is not simple; it can only become simple”.

Firstly started my design, I using the way of put in 5 elements and also add in the site context which I draw out the site boundary and start my master planning design into it. That my way of design stage before entering the building I need to relate to site context and generate the idea into the master plan and the museum façade design, as saying goes “ simple building must reveal not cover, the fissures of doubt; they must reconnect and not isolate”.

Start the master planning on the same time I relate back to the site context and surrounding to bond the idea of inside and outside of site to apply it on my master planning design and also the museum design itself. After I finish my master planning urban park design , I straight carry forward on museum design by starting the space arrangement where “ in simplicity there must be nothing pre-established, nothing immobile. All must be balance, measurement , relation between point, vital organization and mysterious transparency”.

Floor plan spaces design to link each other and connect people together by not separating them, means it can link a people from one point to another point. Building design it has the concept of inside and outside which give people to look out to the garden and from garden look into the museum to create a 2 way linkage feel like there is one by not like separating into 2 which “ simple building can also have an interior whose function, spaces, uses, and distribution are complex”.

Overall, my building design just having a simple function and simple façade, but from the simple design as use of simplicity which that it look simple but the function and space of it is totally use a lot of thinking to form it out. From there the building looks old style and simple, so it so called as the simplicity used as the building project that I designed.
