Tribute to Jenjarom - Simplicity
Simplicity or Complexity?
How to define about simplicity and complexity? Both of them always appear and found in our daily life.
By our own feeling is the only way to define them.
This is a big challenge for a student who graduated from the diploma and continue into degree to figure out "design" and "philosophy".
Will us ever thought about the philosophy before started to design?
It is every of the design must be included or based on our philosophy?
Who knows?
Simple is better
The first design that I have done in degree is a museum.
A museum for the villagers.
For the people.
New Village
A place that brings full of memories and histories.
I am trying to design something that look simple.
To keep every corners of the museum look so friendly to the site.
Elements
We do discover and research about the site, Jenjarom.
Start to observe the elements around before design.
This is the way we start.
Abstract
We combined all the elements as a composition.
It might looks like complicated.
But it is simple and the core of Jenjarom.
Shapes
Always start from the simple shape.
That can be accepted easily by the people.
And also can be developed as we can.
Forms
A form will tell you the truth.
It is just like the feeling on a guy who you really want to know.
It tells you whether can or not.
Environment
Now we start to think about the environmental issue on the site.
Starting to ask the question again and again.
What kind of environment that we want to provide?
What kind of museum or gallery we want to design?
What kind of culture we want to show to people?
What kind of tribute that people really need?
Intention
The word that can answer all the question.
The intention of this museum of mine is treat the site as the urban park.
A place that belongs to every single one of the villagers.
A place that the old folks can hang out.
A place that can remind us about the history.
A place that make us proud to be one of them.
Materials
The materials of the building is similar to the old houses in Jenjarom.
I make them look alike and friendly.
Most of the materials used in this museum is timber and brick.
Each of the materials represented the different era.
It brings out the history of Jenjarom.
Development
After all the research and discovery.
Now is the time we compose all the data and start to develop.
Think from the origin and simple.
I have observed that most of the houses in Jenjarom is extended.
This is also one of the pattern that we found.
The reason why they extend their house is to fit in more of their family members.
This took my eye and I start to working in it.
Tribute
It is the final that I made up.
A gathering centre that full of joy and histories.
It is easy to explain to everyone.
With the materials and house pattern.
It made up the museum.
A museum which looks similar to other house around the site.
The simplicity is not only from the building's look.
But from the philosophy based on the culture.
The origin of Jenjarom.
