The Ornamentation

Ornament is a decoration used to decorate parts of a building’s object or maybe façade, in architecture. Architectural ornament can be carved from stone, wood or precious metals, façade that can be done with plaster or clay.

So, the role of ornament in architecture today is all about display purposes. Mainly are focus on economic and cultural. For economic, there is no function in that building façade by just decorate the building façade using some material, it also use to attract people to the building by it’s looks, so called visual attraction.

Other than that, in economic way the ornament nowadays bring no meaning to it and also intend to copy the old era building element to put into the modern building façade. Sometimes, the architect concept is there but the client incharge of everything and the client is rich they wan the façade to look like this ,so the architect can just follow what the client wan so everything is control by economic.By putting the façade that is copy from past era architectural will only makes the façade of the building looks boring but in other way for the client they think that putting the old era architectural elements at the building façade will attract more people to the building. It’s all about economical, by just using the building façade that have no function but only display purposes.

For cultural, the ornament is can say to bring back the old building cultural to the modern buildings. It can just having the façade same with the old times building but the cultural of the building façade can bring back the meanings on it but not just putting or copy the old time building façade to just cut and paste on it. In the other way, cultural should remain so that the modern era building façade will follow back the cultural from the old times, it also bring back the actual purpose of ornamentation.

When the fourth text were added to this topic, the argument could be “What’s Actual purpose of ornamentation”. In general, I think that the ornamentation today is such a waste and carry no others value and purposes. People are tend to being confused by the ornamentation and also look at it application. So, the correct way of application will be start with the design concept of the architect, if the architect or designer think well into each ornaments that they apply onto the particular buildings carry a meaning and useful purpose or so call as function into it. From the old era, there are good elements left at that time than we should bring back those ornaments to the modern world and bring back the reason why the ornament are been follow and also the purpose of doing this. At the same time, the meaning of ornament must be carry to the people properly so in order to bring the ornament purpose too. So that people wont so easier misunderstand the ornament of it and also clearly let people to know what is the meaning and the purpose of the ornament that we are having in this modern era.
