"How can the arts and crafts that you have done related to architecture" One of the audiences asked.
"For me, architecture is arts and crafts" Hatta answered.
This is a pleasure to attend the public PAM talk. Mohd Hatta Ismail from ATELIER DIA.
He is popularly known, is no stranger to Malaysian design circles.
An educator, designer, conceptualist, generalist and mentor to many.
Mr. Hatta said he is willing to learn and involved in crafting that he never tried before.
It brings ideas and perspectives of thinking in many ways.
Every different materials have different presentation by their own characteristics.
He is honest to the materials and present it in a natural way.
There are also some painting that Mr. Hatta did and shared to us.
Painting also considered as one of the ways to bring up the ideas.
Each of art pieces might representing kind of feeling, scene and also attitude.
Is this the abstract drawings that really help up in design?
For me, it did helping up to explore more possibility and perspectives to achieve in many ways.
For Mr. Hatta, those abstract is not necessary to be understood.
But the meaning of those painting is all depend on our own.
Own feelings and understanding.
Mr. Hatta also showing his interior work in his talk.
He is the guy who always with his own style.
In this Museum Sultan Abu Bakar, he wanted all the old time weapons present in a natural way.
This is excited to see the historical things presenting and showing in such a way.
It let the people actually can feel the weapon.
It is not feel with touching, but the placing and the scene that have made.
This is quite different to other museum that the way how to treat the items.
It seem like Mr. Hatta present his work step by step.
At first is the crafting and then the painting.
Lastly is the how he treat the items in interior.
Now is the time to see what Mr. Hatta have done in the building.
This is the most exciting part to know what is the ideas of Mr. Hatta in his work.
This is one of the projects that have been done by Mr. Hatta which is Silalima in Kuantan.
Mr. Hatta using the simple materials in this design by having a bare cement render wall.
This is how he using the material and respond to the nature.
He is also showing how to listen to the clients.
By fufil the request from the clients, it also should be thought of the design.
With his style.
This is what Mr. Hatta always do in his design by having greenery and raw material.
He did appreciate the materials and the origin of a building.
He believe all of the items have their background and story behind.
He would like to add some building element to serve the old building.
But not to change or demolish what the structure or materials.
"Focusing primarily on the intellectual functions of objects and visual expressions of colour and texture, to assist in the orchestration of objects and spaces, which are only a natural reaction to architects intent."
What is architecture?
I believe this question always appeared in most of us as a architecture student.
From the books we knew that architecture is to design and create a space with functions.
For me, architecture brings a lot of meaning for every single one of us.
For Mr.Hatta, "architecture is an attitude"
