PAM Public Lecture 2017
PAM Public Lecture- By MOHD. HATTA ISMAIL
This public lecture is all about art and design, which the talk is given by Mohd. Hatta Ismail. Mohd Hatta Ismail is known as artist, designer , painter or maybe a model maker which produce a good kind of model by his own feelings. He is the Principle of D.I.A architect firm.
The main topic of this lecture is acquired understanding which means the idea of relating senses to objects and space towards consciousness that allow greater insight into an art, object, form and too space. He lecturing about the gesture of sketching, laying, and the repeating lines that bring to a deeper appreciation of those lines or the object that being drawn.
During the talk, he also told that he get many inspiration from the Japanese architect and some artist. Japanese aesthetics and a Japanese world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Showing many different types of Art Pieces that he made ,Wabi sabi is the word he mentioned the most, so the design inspiration is from there.
The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete".
The bowls that he made comes from different texture , material , shapes ,showing up the simplicity of the form. The bowls that he make for normal people will take it as normal bowl. But for himself, he will look at the bowl by definding how the space is in the bowl. He use a lot of different material to form the bowl out and the purpose of doing this is to experience and handle different kind of material, which can it bring different kind of result.
Art painting which is drawn by Mohd Hatta Ismail are basically simple and easy which only have few tones of colours or maybe 1 or 2 lines of works in it but at the same time it brings a lot of meaning behind it which the painting is express by his feelings. From what Hatta said, the painting he drawn is not just an art, it also represent the space, which the meaning is more than that.
Looks forward into the interior of MUSEUM SULTAN
ABU BAKAR, we can explore that the design of this
concept is quite simple and minimalist. It does not contain too much of complicated elements and what Hatta emphasis is how he make use of the space and design without losing the quality of It. He mentioned – ‘use space naturally purely ‘ To make the exhibition area interesting, Hatta intend to use glass to strengthen the artpiece and make it stand out which can impress peoples.
SILALIMA , LOCATED IN KUANTAN
A household that was adaptive reused to become a guesthouse to provide accommodation for the traveller. For Silalima, he use the minimal element to built it and Hatta start design by his intend. Having simplicity of the space planning and material choosing ,he decided to blend in a pond. Previously, the owner want to have a car porch infront but Hatta say "I just want a pond , if u want a porch u can find others". , serves as Hierarchy of the elements in the entrance.I personally like that design idea of having pond in that area instead of car porch because it give a whole new feeling to that house.
The entrance seems to be hidden in somewhere , but it is just located right to the pond ,seperated with a concrete wall.
To let people live in a comfort way, he design using high concrete wall to gain the privacy of that housing and also separate the view from outside to inner space. The wall is block in a proper planning which doesn’t simply block here and there.
Courtyard is used by his design which give good ventilation, natural skylight and also some greenery plants at the courtyard. Other than that, the toilet is design having a skylight on top which allow natural lighting to enter at the same time also provide a good ventilation for the toilet.Natural elements like sunlight , rain drop can performing their architectural way of effect through the glass.
In conclusion, I think that design a good space is no limit in perfection because follow what Hatta said how good the design is, its always feeling not the way of express the painting. The sentence he said which is copy and copy slowly it will become your works, I feel like that is the way I do during the stage 1 and stage 2 of design. But it doesn’t wrong, because sometimes when copy here and there we can find our own design in that process.
