CONTEXT AND BUILDING I

Context is external elements that influence an object. These elements are physical and non physical. Road, buildings, and land contour are examples for physical elements while non physical elements are weather condition, local culture, as well as political and economic constrains.

Thus the contexts are influencing architecture design today. Design a building for a reason and depends on the environmental issues such as the countries with for seasons and the tropical countries. Understand the local contexts are important for designer to produce a good building design.

Is important the context is important in architecture today? Of course the context is important for every buildings to determine the architectural style, building material selection and site layout, which is very important in creating an effect design . All these promote continuity between the building and local circumstances.

But what is the context that predominantly used in architecture today? Most of the contemporary buildings designed based on several different contexts. For my opinion and interpretation, I would say the non-physical elements as the contexts t like environment and human activities that can be seem in architecture today.

"All the various sporting activities, take place directly outside people’s homes, in the midst of parks—trees, lawns, lakes. The city is entirely green; it is a Green City. Not one inhabitant occupies a room without sunlight; everyone looks out on trees and sky." mentioned by Le Corbusier, his imaginary world.

Green and sustainable building will be the architecture style in most of the buildings today because of the environmental issues, human activities and also life quality by providing more greenery spaces in a building or urban same as Le Corbusier asking for more greenery area in the city and also inside the building.

Landed Residential - smaller scale

This building is completed in 2013 which is located at Brasil by CR2 Arquitetura. The concept of this building is designing in such a green space in the community as a residential. As from the photo ,this building is surrounded by the apartments and due to the lacking of greenery, the owner asking for more green area in the house.

The voids are filled with lush and contemplative gardens, which can be viewed from all environments, creating a visual connection between the ground and the first floor. The green will reduce the temperature in day time and it will reduce the usage of electricity for using machinery to lower down temperature,

The series of voids within the structure to house gardens that would be naturally illuminated from above without compromising the privacy of the residents. The living spaces is surrounded by the greens which can reduce the air pollution by having the nature "air condition" and the life quality has been improved because of the better ventilation and air recycling.

High-rise building - bigger scale

This is Bosca Verticale which is located at Milan and completed in 2014 by Boeri Studio. The Vertical Forest is an architectural concept which replaces traditional materials on urban surfaces using the changing polychromy of leaves for its walls. It relies on a screen of vegetation, needing to create a suitable microclimate and filter sunlight, and rejecting the narrow technological and mechanical approach to environmental sustainability.

Everyone of residents in this apartment having their own "garden" that improve the life quality and considered about the human activities in the buildings by proving the space for the chilling and relaxing purpose.

Each individual dwelling features a private garden which protects interior living space from acoustic pollution, dust particles, harsh winds and direct sunlight. at roof level, photo voltaic panels contribute to the self-sufficiency of the complex, while grey water from the building is filtered

The Vertical Forest helps to build a micro climate and to filter fine particles contained in the urban environment. The diversity of plants helps to develop the micro climate which produces humidity, absorbs CO2 and particles, produces oxygen, and protects against radiation and noise pollution.

The design is based on the context of human activities and environmental issues and success to reduce the pollution and it is an anti-sprawl method which helps to control and reduce urban expansion.

Urban Design - biggest scale

Is this the world that Le Corbusier dreams of? It might be not totally same as the strategy from Le Cobusier but the context and the objective are the same by providing the spaces that full of green and the public spaces is close to the buildng which inside the park.

Because of the needed from people, the New York Central Park served as the public spaces to all the residents around New York and also because of environmental issue that remain the area of greenery is such a big city. Although New York Central Park was established in 1858 and not considered as the contemporary architecture master piece, but it do contains the context between the people and buildings.

Conclusion

Contemporary architecture is essentially related to the issue and the current style. Therefore, architecture is constantly changing according to the times. Environmental issues such as pollution that rising recently are very important to overcome. Architecture also plays an important role to reduce the pollution by making innovative design to solve the problem.

Sustainable design is increasingly a popular idea due to rising fossil fuels. These changes would logically change the style and form of contemporary architecture to the new paradigm.
