Eric Chen is the disruptive force to the heart of the study Archiblur Lab , training of architects, artists and students active in Taiwan, has been characterized by numerous interventions of ephemeral architecture. He also a visiting professor in UCSI University.

About his project Urban Archipelago Project, it consist 10 Building look’s shelter. They are name as City Floating Island, those building look’s shelter are call as moving architecture and can move to different place by having wheels below the buildings. His topic’s meaning is approach connection of building and space with the overall context as well.

Eric Chen’s design ideas are preserve the old houses remained in Taiwan with different way of architecture, design based on local history and incidents, bringing back memories by making installation, use the installation to create a community area and talking about architecture and life, as a city culture movement with citizens.

Upon the project, Eric had made quite a number of thinking. In each building, the building forum will be pulled into the field of public activities, looking forward to more space issues, with the people to study the changes in the city, to expand the building can be considered for the building, so that the building has become the power of integration of culture, series of forums for free public activities. The constructions are inspired by the infinite number of spontaneous solutions that can be seen in Taiwan’s streets, squares and parks.

ABOUT THE ARCHIPELAGO :

These kiosk can move from place to place, there are to host activities and designed to activate underused public spaces, like dark corner and place that people seldom go to. The appear of Archipelago will bring up the people to there and also improve the environment quality over there. Each of the Archipelago have its own function and meaning in it. Starting with 3 Archipelago are Exhibition Hall , Family Story House , and Time Machine.

2 archipelago showing artwork to reflect the micro living that happened around urban citizen and showing photo to memory back the past. For time machine, it act as an event space, a place for people to gather here and have photo time same time is reuse of space and bring up the underuse place.

Archipelago 4, The River Bank Science Garden.

It located nearby an important river. So Eric design a kiosk with roof garden and waterpump is to let people know the existant of river as to create a way of letting people know the importance of nature. Same time to allow kid to harvest the roof garden’s plants.

Other Archipelago are Moving Garden, Voice House, Wind House, Water House and Moving house. All these kiosk are function as blend into surrounding and receive some connection with the nature force. With also reuse the place and create new opportunity for the surrounding.

In conclusion, Eric Chen is an architect passionate in achieving unity between a buildings and the place that it sits on , put his idea on how his creation could affect the place or turn the atmosphere of a particular area. Which architecture must design focus on peoples and building or building and context, not design with no reason or zero contribution. Doing what I like, don’t mind to go broke and doing something that on the right way and like is more important, by Eric Chen. In architecture, we should think the problem might facing in future don’t wait for the problem come to us.

THIS PROJECT IS OVER BUDGET, BUT ERIC STILL WANT TO DO IT,BECAUSE HE LIKE WHAT HE IS DOING!!!
