NATURE & CONSTRUCTED

What is the role of nature in architecture today? Is nature predominantly a design metaphor, a set of physical factor to emulate, or a set of physical factors to overcome oppose; some combination of these; or something else?

Nature is an important part of the context in traditional architecture, in general. Architecture responds to local conditions such as climate, geology and seismic conditions. Local building materials and their properties are key in the technical design. Architecture has become independent from its natural context and becoming an independent art, architecture found references in its own realm. The design primarily reflect the natural conditions and the materials is necessarily indicate the geographical location of the project. The context of the design should include the natural context which the context is based on references in architecture itself.

In nature, it also can say as an environment and also as an organic to dissolves the boundary inside and outside. There also are organic architecture and Biomimetic architecture.

Organic architecture- is a philosophy of architecture which promotes harmony between human habitation and the natural world. This design approaches aim to be sympathetic and well-integrated with a site and surroundings become part of a unified that interrelated composition.

Biomimetic architecture- is a contemporary philosophy of architecture that seeks solutions for sustainability in nature, not by replicating the natural forms.

The precedence from the past, since the begin of the exist of architecture there are evidence show that nature has been affecting the architecture. Nature not only served as the metaphor of design, it also refer to a set of physical factors that need to be considered when creating of a design. In today, nature has become a most important concept and main idea on the design process. Nature’s role in architecture is getting more serious and more important when it comes to architecture today which there are not same as the past that nature treat as a sourse of inspiration for human, that begin differently aspect in their life.

Building designer or architect must create something more special or so call as more meaningful design when having connection with the nature in each aspect and apply it into conceptual design case. Nature is the most important things to take note when having a consideration in design. Site is a must to take as a study, because it design is based on natural site condition-context.

“Real site cannot be remove from human time, the space of site is made by human, content is human bring to nature and architecture must bring to site”

THE EXAMPLE OF CONTEMPORARY:

Residence of Daisen, In Japan

Design architect is Keisuke Kawaguchi, building was complete in 2011 and it is a modern house that follow nature. The building itself is located in the forest of Yonago City , the house site is situated in the midst of abundant cherry and pine trees, standing at natural well-balanced intervals with trunks reaching towards the sky with bountiful leaves. The figures of the trees are beautiful and they are the legitimate habitants of the forest.

To form a building that is direct respond to the nature context . The architects have then found the idea to reserve the natures as well as the pleasure of appreciating the nature through architecture . Designed the house to fit into gaps between the existing trees, taking advantage of the available space without disrupting the natural surroundings.

The building plan was draft according to the architect idea which having sensitive dialogue with the site is requisite to building a house that lies in coexistence with nature.

Roofs pitched at different angles squeeze beneath tree branches and add to the building's staccato aesthetic, while short corridors link the functional spaces.

The largest volume contains a living space with double-height windows looking out onto a series of terraces and the forest beyond which create a blur boundary between inside and outside of the building. The forms and colours of the forest seen from each room are as deep as the eye can see. Bright (red), tangible (white), obscure (blue), dark (black) – we may call them the colours of the day.

In conclusion, relationship between architecture and environment is very strong and can’t be forget as there have a good environment that a buildings that are built on it also must take into consideration the landscape and its impacts. Design based on nature way, which remain the origin of the landscape or nature that design a building follow the shape of nature, just like the building that I have study on.
